Our Complete Boat Licence Course combines instructor-led theory and practical boating training, giving you the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress towards obtaining your NSW General Boat Driving Licence.

You are not expected to learn the theory on your own. We work through the essential boating theory together during the course, explain the key concepts and answer your questions.

How the course works

1. Purchase and book the complete course

Pay $300 securely online. Master Boat Licence will contact you to confirm your course arrangements.

2. Learn the theory in class

Your instructor will guide you through the essential General Boat Licence theory, explain the important concepts and answer your questions. This gives you a solid understanding before you attend Service NSW for the official knowledge test.

3. Complete your practical training

Complete the required on-water practical boating course with Master Boat Licence. You will learn and demonstrate essential boating skills including vessel preparation, safety checks, steering, low-speed manoeuvring, berthing, navigation awareness and emergency procedures.

4. Revise online after the course

After completing the course, you will receive 30 days’ secure access to our complete theory presentation and online practice questions. Use these resources to revise what was covered in class and prepare for the official knowledge test.

5. Sit the official test at Service NSW

The official General Boat Licence knowledge test is completed separately at a Service NSW Centre. We recommend booking your Service NSW appointment in advance.

• Service NSW knowledge-test and licence fees are not included.
• MBL does not conduct the official knowledge test under this course arrangement.

• Students must meet all Transport for NSW requirements, successfully complete the applicable official test and submit their licence application through Service NSW.
