How the course works
1. Purchase the complete course
Pay $300 securely online. Your student account will be created and you will receive access to the protected theory presentation.
2. Study at your own pace
Work through the presentation from beginning to end during your 30-day access period.
At the end, follow the link to the online practice questions. We recommend completing the practice exam at least five times. Once you are scoring consistently, you should be well prepared to attempt the official knowledge test.
3. Complete your practical course
Master Boat Licence will contact you after payment to arrange your on-water practical boating course.
You will learn and demonstrate essential boating skills including vessel preparation, safety checks, steering, low-speed manoeuvring, berthing, navigation awareness and emergency procedures.
4. Sit the official test at Service NSW
The official General Boat Licence knowledge test is completed separately at a Service NSW Centre.
We recommend booking your Service NSW appointment in advance. If suitable appointments are available, it may be possible to complete your practical course and official test on the same day, but appointment availability cannot be guaranteed by MBL.

- The 30-day expiry applies to online presentation access only.
- Service NSW knowledge-test and licence fees are not included.
- MBL does not conduct the official knowledge test under this temporary course arrangement.
- Purchasing this course does not issue or guarantee a NSW boat licence.
- Students must meet all Transport for NSW requirements, successfully complete the applicable official test and submit their licence application through Service NSW.
